As
a 5th grade teacher, one of the most important parts of my job is to
build a love of reading in my students. Helping them find books they enjoy puts
them on their way toward being critical readers and writers, which is essential
for school success. That is why I use Scholastic Reading Club in my class. It
makes it easy for you to choose books that your child will love, at just the
right reading level for him or her – and at unbeatable prices.
I sent home the very first Scholastic Book Club order on Thursday. If you haven’t
ordered from Scholastic before, please consider doing so this year. Their
prices are very reasonable and the quality is excellent. Did you know that every day is a “tax-free holiday”
when it comes to scholastic book club orders? You never pay sales tax, and you
don’t even pay shipping and handling.
I
love ordering books for our classroom from Scholastic; the company is very
education oriented and provides many freebies for classrooms. This month they have a wonderful deal! If
teachers can get together a $300 order they will give the class 10,000 bonus points which can
be used to buy books and classroom materials. That many bonus points
works out to anywhere from 100-200 free books for the classroom! If we reach our goal of $300,
I will let each child who placed an
order get one free book from an upcoming book order.
Last
year, I gave out over $300 in book coupons to students to earn free books. We
were able to do that because of the support of parents buying books through
Scholastic (and all the extra bonus points that we earned for FREE)!
Here's how it works:
- SIGN UP at www.Scholastic.com/bookclubs.
On the main page, click REGISTER,
then click, “I’m a parent,” to register
for your own username and password.
- When prompted, enter
the one-time Class Activation Code, LZQWN, this code ensures
that your order is sent to me.
- SELECT the books you'd like to order from
over 500 titles available online and take advantage of online-only
specials and discounts.
- SEND your order to me online by the due date.
Books will be delivered directly to our classroom, as always.
Ordering online is fast,
easy, and secure. Plus our whole class benefits thanks to the FREE books we'll earn with every parent
online order.
Please return/place online book orders by the due
date. Return your order (if you choose not to order online) to me with a CHECK
made out to SCHOLASTIC BOOKS by Friday
August 29th.
Lastly,
to complement our AR program at McMillin Elementary, Scholastic has made it
easy to purchase books based on AR levels. This will ensure that your child is
reading books that are just-right for him/her at his/her reading level. Please
feel free to contact me if you have any questions about AR. Below you will find a list
of recommended books.
Please
contact me if you would like personal recommendations for your child.
Happy
Reading,
